Following the criticism, a BBC anchor made the following statement regarding the "support for Hamas" description during a broadcast around 18:00 local time:
"We had mentioned demonstrations held across the UK where people were expressing their support for Hamas. We accept that this was an inaccurate phrase and a misleading description of the pro-Palestine demonstrations."
Tens of thousands of people held numerous demonstrations in many cities across the UK last weekend to show solidarity with Palestine.
