Behind the scenes of the district governor decree: Deputy governor removed following secret witness scandal

The 2024 summer appointments for civil administrative officials serving as deputy governors in provinces and district governors in districts across the country have come into effect after receiving the approval of President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

According to the report by Tolga Şardan from T24; the decree prepared by the Ministry of Interior included changes within governorates and district governorates in major cities, as well as some deputy governors and district governors who served in the trustee administration in the Southeastern and Eastern Anatolia regions.

It was noted that the same decree also included civil administrative officials who were involved in certain events that were or were not reflected in the public eye.

District Governor Mesut Bolat, who was serving during the events that took place between the MHP and CHP in the Pınarbaşı district of Kayseri during the local elections in March and led to the renewal of the election, was removed from his post. Bolat was appointed to the Gerger district of Adıyaman.

A NOTABLE DECISION

Another appointment took place within the Ankara Governorate. Last May, a “secret witness” scandal erupted at the Ankara Police Department. It was noted that Abdullah Dölek, the Deputy Governor of Ankara responsible for the Ankara Police Department, to whom Ankara Organized Crime Branch Manager Kerem Gökay Öner, who was detained after the scandal was revealed, had explained the troubles he was experiencing before the incident, was removed from his post.

Deputy Governor Yunus Emre Akpınar, who was responsible for the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services (ASHB) during the harassment scandal that broke out at the Burdur Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services, was appointed to the Şemdinli district of Hakkari.

Selami Korkutata, the District Governor of the Kahta district of Adıyaman, where the center of the Menzil Sect, which is still known to be powerful in the bureaucracy, is located, became the new district governor of the Gazipaşa district of Antalya.

In addition, Van Deputy Governor Adem Balkanlıoğlu, who is a relative of İsmailağa community leader Metin Balkanlıoğlu, was assigned to the Suruç district of Şanlıurfa.

Şanlıurfa was among the cities where intensive appointments were made in the decree. Three deputy governors serving in the city, which was at the center of political debates in the last local elections and where the New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi) took the metropolitan municipality from the AKP, and the district governors managing the Haliliye, Harran, Suruç, Viranşehir, Karaköprü, and Halfeti districts were included in the decree.

Four out of six deputy governors and two out of three district governors serving in Kilis on the Syrian border were replaced.

While only one deputy governor was reassigned from Muğla, two deputy governors from Antalya and the district governors of Muratpaşa, Gazipaşa, İbradı, Gündoğmuş, and Demre districts were replaced.

In the Diyarbakır-based appointments, in addition to two deputy governors, the district governors of Yenişehir, Ergani, Bismil, Çınar, Çermik, and Kayapınar were replaced. On the other hand, District Governor Burak Akeller, who was supported by the MHP and whose alleged beating of Imam M.K. during prayer at a mosque in Kulp last January was reflected in the public eye, remained in his post.

Cizre's female district governor and also the district's female municipal trustee Nazlı Demir was appointed to a position in the ministry's central organization. Demir will serve as a department head at the General Directorate of Provincial Administration.

The district governors of Şereflikoçhisar, Nallıhan, Bala, Çubuk, and Çamlıdere in Ankara; Başakşehir, Eyüpsultan, Avcılar, Bayrampaşa, and Şişli in Istanbul; and Karabağlar, Kiraz, Beydağ, Torbalı, Bayındır, Dikili, and Kınık in İzmir were changed.
