Betting investigation in football expands: New detentions on the way
Detention warrants have been issued for 29 people as part of a betting and match-fixing investigation in football. Journalist Tahir Kum stated that the operations will continue and that bigger names will be announced.
Within the framework of the betting and match-fixing investigation in football conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 29 people were detained this morning. Among those detained is former Galatasaray Board Vice President Erden Timur.
Türkiye newspaper columnist Tahir Kum, in a statement to Habertürk, said, 'These operations will continue; they will not stop here. Because as you know, the TFF initiated disciplinary proceedings regarding 30 observers. The names of the representatives will be announced today or tomorrow. We will see the real bombshell, the tsunami, when the coaches, executives, and presidents are announced.'
Kum stated that betting and match-fixing attempts could be evaluated under Article 11 of Law No. 6222, adding, 'Whether that player plays in that match or not, if they place a bet on their own team's match for the opposing team to win, I think we can classify it under this category.'
INVESTIGATION DEEPENS
The prosecutor's office had launched a second investigation into 101 football players who were penalized by the Disciplinary Board on November 13, 2025. Today, the Disciplinary Board decisions dated November 18, 2025, were also examined. Among the 2nd League players in particular, there are names who have previously played in the Süper Lig.
Kum stated that the names of coaches could also be announced, saying, 'Do not be surprised if the names of coaches emerge.' The scope of the investigation is expected to expand.
