Bloody dispute in parking lot: 1 dead

According to information obtained in Istanbul's Beylikdüzü Marina, 27-year-old Muharrem Can Kurtuluş was heading toward a cafe after parking his vehicle with a friend when he attempted to calm a dispute between the parking lot attendant and 4 individuals. Kurtuluş was then subjected to verbal harassment by the 4 individuals. The fight that broke out following the verbal argument was de-escalated by the parking lot attendant and citizens. The 4 individuals then got into their vehicle and left the parking lot. Muharrem Can Kurtuluş went to the cafe to sit with his friend. A while later, the 4 people who had left the parking lot returned and began waiting inside their car. As Muharrem Can Kurtuluş left the cafe with his friend and was about to exit the parking lot in his vehicle, his path was blocked by the 4 suspects he had argued with. As Kurtuluş stepped out of his vehicle, he was subjected to an armed attack by the 4 individuals. The young man, struck by bullets, collapsed to the ground. The 4 individuals who carried out the armed attack got into their car and fled the scene. Upon notification, police and medical teams were dispatched to the area. The medical teams determined in their initial intervention that the severely wounded young man had lost his life.

Police teams cordoned off the scene and conducted an investigation. Following the examinations, the body of Muharrem Can Kurtuluş was transported to the Forensic Medicine Institute Morgue.

4 SUSPECTS WHO FLED APPREHENDED

Police teams launched a large-scale operation in the surrounding area for the individuals who fled the scene by car following the armed attack. As a result of the efforts, it was determined that the 4 suspects who carried out the incident were Atakan G., Sonkan G., Asilcan A., and Taha K., and that the car they used was a rental. Following discussions with the rental company, it was determined that the individuals were in Esenyurt. In the operation supported by Special Operations teams, the 4 suspects were apprehended and taken into custody. During the searches conducted on the individuals, 1 unlicensed pistol, 4 precision scales, and 1,210 grams of narcotics were seized. It was learned that one of the suspects, Atakan G., had a prior criminal record with the police.

"OUR FRIEND WAS JUST PASSING BY"

Muhammed Atış, a friend of the late Muharrem Can Kurtuluş, said, "There were 4 individuals acting suspiciously at the parking lot exit. At that moment, the parking attendant reported the situation to the police. A commotion ensued. Our friend Muharrem was just passing by at that time. After these people harassed Muharrem, they dispersed. The individuals later returned. The armed attack took place. Subsequently, we lost our friend. The individuals were caught in a raid on their homes. Drugs were found on the individuals. These individuals also attacked the police. He was a brother I loved very much. We grew up together. He was a good, quiet person. Everyone knew and loved him. Unfortunately, such an unfortunate incident occurred. We told his mother it was a traffic accident; we couldn't even explain it. How are we going to tell her?" The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
