Boğaziçi remains defiant: Students protest for their imprisoned peers

Boğaziçi University students held a protest for the colleagues of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu who were arrested alongside him, as well as for their fellow students who were arrested during the subsequent protests. After supporting the academics' vigil in the university's South Square, the students marched to the Etiler Gate.

It was reported that security forces prevented the students from leaving the campus, and it was alleged that the students were threatened with detention.

From there, the students went to the South Square to hold a forum. In a statement made there, the students noted the following:

"THE ONE-MAN REGIME HAS NO BASIS OF LEGITIMACY LEFT"

"As the process that began with the arrest of İmamoğlu has passed the 2-week mark, the lawlessness of the trustee regime continues unabated. At the point we have reached, along with more than 300 students, union representatives, artists, workers, and citizens exercising their constitutional rights have been arrested. It is clear that the one-man regime, which claims its legitimacy is based on democratic elections, has no basis of legitimacy left.

And it is also clear that all these policies of suppression and intimidation are a reflection of the regime's fear of losing its seat, having abandoned all democratic norms."

In their statement, the students recited the names of their imprisoned peers and emphasized that they stand with them.
