Bread price hike coming in İzmir

A proposal to set the price of a 200-gram loaf of bread at 10 liras in İzmir has been submitted to the Ministry of Trade by the commission of the İzmir Union of Chambers of Tradesmen and Craftsmen. Kemal Sırtı, President of the İzmir Bakers' Chamber, stated, "We passed the price that should have been in effect in January through the commission at our İzmir Union of Chambers of Tradesmen and Craftsmen meeting on May 17. We will switch to our new price after the Ministry's approval."

Bread price hike coming in İzmir

In İzmir, a vote was held at the İzmir Union of Chambers of Tradesmen and Craftsmen meeting to determine bread price tariffs.

As a result of the vote, the price hike tariff prepared to make a 200-gram loaf of bread 10 TL in İzmir was submitted to the Ministry of Trade on May 17.

If it passes the Ministry's approval, a 200-gram loaf of bread will be offered for sale at 10 TL in the city.

THE HIKE REMAINS BELOW COSTS

Pointing out that the main reason for the new price tariff submitted for bread is rising costs, İzmir Bakers' Chamber President Kemal Sırtı said, "In İzmir, 220 grams of bread is sold for 9 TL; however, rising costs such as labor, flour prices, electricity, water, yeast, diesel, and natural gas have pushed us to take a decision for another bread price hike.

The price hike we have taken due to rising costs remains far, far below the actual cost. The difficulties experienced by our fellow bakers do not end with just cost increases. Not being able to find trained personnel to work in bakeries is our biggest problem. We work day and night, 7 days a week, with our families, heart and soul, to provide bread to our citizens' tables," he said.

Sırtı included the following remarks:

“For this reason, it is my duty to do more than I can. We passed the price that should have been in effect in January through the commission at our İzmir Union of Chambers of Tradesmen and Craftsmen meeting on May 17. We will switch to our new price after the Ministry's approval.”

On January 31, 2024, the price of 220 grams of bread in İzmir had become 9 liras.
