A new investigation has been opened against detained journalist Fatih Altaylı on charges of "spreading misleading information" over a broadcast he made on 5 August, with prosecutors seeking up to 3 years in prison.

İsmail Saymaz, a writer for Halk TV, announced in a social media post that a new investigation had been launched against Fatih Altaylı.

According to Saymaz, Altaylı — whose YouTube channel had already been blocked over his 5 August broadcast — now faces proceedings under Article 207 of the Turkish Penal Code in connection with that same broadcast.

"SPREADING MISLEADING INFORMATION" CHARGE

As part of the investigation, Altaylı is alleged to have "spread misleading information" during the broadcast in question. Article 207 of the Turkish Penal Code contains provisions relating to forgery of official documents and false declarations. Under the investigation conducted on the basis of this article, a demand for up to 3 years in prison for Altaylı has been put on the agenda.
