Breaking development in the ship disaster off the coast of Kyrenia: Striking claim regarding the captain!

A passenger ship traveling from Kyrenia to Taşucu has capsized off the coast of the city of Kyrenia in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It was reported that there were a total of 267 people on board, including passengers and crew.

Following the accident, 3 Coast Guard boats and 3 civilian vessels were dispatched to the area, while ambulance and police teams were also directed to the scene. It was announced that search and rescue operations are ongoing.

TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel announced that the efforts are being closely monitored through a Crisis Desk established after the accident. Üstel stated that 237 of the 267 people on board have been rescued, 8 people have lost their lives, and there is no word yet on 23 individuals.

In his statement, Üstel noted that search and rescue operations are continuing uninterrupted with all available resources mobilized to reach the 23 missing persons.

STRIKING CLAIM REGARDING THE CAPTAIN

Following the accident, a striking claim regarding the operation and management of the ship has come to the fore.

According to information reported by Sözcü, it is alleged that the person stated to be operating the ship that capsized did not hold a captain's license and that their name was on the ship's passenger list.

It is stated that this claim has raised questions regarding how and by whom the ship was being operated at the time of the accident. The allegations concerning the captain's authority and qualifications are expected to be clarified as a result of the investigation and inquiry to be conducted by official authorities.

MOMENTS OF PANIC CAUGHT ON CAMERA

Footage said to have been taken just before the ship, which is reported to belong to Filo Denizcilik, capsized has also emerged.

In the footage, some passengers can be seen wearing life jackets while waiting inside the ship, and panic ensued as the ship began to list to one side. The moments when passengers were waiting to be rescued were reflected in the images.
