Breaking News: 5.0 magnitude earthquake in the Sea of Marmara! AFAD announces epicenter

A 5.0 magnitude earthquake has occurred in the Sea of Marmara. AFAD announced that the epicenter of the earthquake was off the coast of Marmaraereğlisi, Tekirdağ.

 

The earthquake, recorded at 14:55, occurred at a depth of 6.71 kilometers. The tremor was felt in Istanbul and surrounding provinces.

KANDİLLİ ANNOUNCES MAGNITUDE AS 5.3

The Kandilli Observatory, meanwhile, announced the magnitude of the earthquake as 5.3 and its depth as 12.5 kilometers.

 

STATEMENT FROM THE ISTANBUL GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

The Istanbul Governor's Office issued a statement following the earthquake, which caused brief panic.

In the statement made on the Governor's Office's social media account, it was stated: "Following the 5.0 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Marmaraereğlisi in the Sea of Marmara, no information regarding any damage has been received in Istanbul so far. Our field teams have begun inspections across the city. We ask our citizens not to approach structures thought to be damaged and to follow the statements of authorized institutions."
