Breaking News: 5.4 magnitude earthquake in Kütahya! Felt in Istanbul as well

An earthquake that was also felt in Istanbul has occurred. According to a notification sent by an earthquake application, the tremor was recorded in Kütahya and its magnitude was estimated at 5.6.

AFAD reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was the Simav district of Kütahya and announced its magnitude as 5.4.

 

The earthquake, which occurred at 12:59, was recorded at a depth of 8.46 kilometers.

STATEMENT FROM ALİ YERLİKAYA

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya made a statement regarding the earthquake that caused panic.

"A 5.4 magnitude earthquake has occurred in Simav, Kütahya. Regarding the earthquake, which was also felt in surrounding provinces, all teams from AFAD and our relevant institutions have begun field assessments.

I offer my best wishes for a speedy recovery to our citizens affected by the earthquake.

May God protect our country and our nation from disasters."

Thirteen minutes after this earthquake, another earthquake with a magnitude of 4 occurred in Simav.

STATEMENT FROM THE MAYOR

Simav Mayor Kübra Tekel Aktulun, whose district was the epicenter of the earthquake, made a statement to NTV. Aktulun said, "We have old structures in the district. Our teams are currently in the field. The public is in a state of panic."

STATEMENT FROM AFAD

In a statement following the earthquake, AFAD reported that there were no negative developments.

"Following the 5.4 magnitude #earthquake that occurred at 12:59 in the Simav district of our Kütahya province and was also felt in our provinces of Uşak, Balıkesir, Bursa, and Bilecik, there are currently no negative reports.

Field assessment efforts are ongoing.
