Breaking News: 576 people detained on May 1st have been released

The Istanbul Governor's Office had announced that 575 people were detained during the May 1st celebrations.

According to reports from Sözcü TV, all those detained on May 1st have been released.

CHD: ALL INDIVIDUALS RELEASED EXCEPT FOR 46 PEOPLE

The Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD), contrary to the Istanbul Governor's Office, announced that the number of detainees was 576.

The ÇHD Istanbul Branch May 1st Crisis Desk had shared an updated report regarding the detention processes related to May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day and the operations conducted prior to this date.

According to information published as of 07:30 on May 2, 2026, the vast majority of the 576 people detained on May 1st have been released. Of those detained in operations carried out on April 28, 14 people were arrested.

The statement from ÇHD regarding the matter is as follows:

“The processing of the total of 576 people detained on May 1st at the Istanbul Provincial Police Department and the Gayrettepe Public Security Branch Directorate has been completed.

All individuals, with the exception of the 46 people detained on the Bosphorus Bridge, were released as of 07:00 in the morning.

The law enforcement interrogation processes for all 46 people detained on the Bosphorus Bridge concluded around 08:00 in the morning.

It was reported that these individuals would be brought to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan during the day.

The ÇHD report also included information on the judicial processes regarding the operations carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, April 28, before May 1st:

Of the total 47 people detained, 23 were referred to the courthouse on the morning of May 1st. Of these individuals, 14 were arrested, while house arrest was ordered for 9.

All of the remaining 24 people detained within the scope of the same operation were released on May 1st after their statements were taken at the police station, without being referred to the courthouse.”
