NUMBER OF ARRESTS RISES TO 10
The number of people arrested as part of the investigation has risen to 10.
A search operation had been launched for 8-year-old Narin Güran, who went missing in the Tavşantepe neighborhood on August 21. As part of the investigation conducted by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the Tavşantepe neighborhood headman (muhtar) and Narin Güran's uncle, Salim Güran, was detained and subsequently arrested by the duty magistrate court on September 2.
Diyarbakır Governor Murat Zorluoğlu had announced that the missing Narin Güran was found dead on September 8 at around 08:45, inside a sack by the Eğertutmaz Stream, covered with stones to hide her body. Zorluoğlu stated, "According to initial findings, it is understood that after the missing Narin Güran was murdered, she was placed in a sack, brought to the stream bank, placed into the water along with the sack, and covered with tree branches and stones in a way that would not arouse suspicion, giving it a natural appearance."
Nevzat Bahtiyar (48), one of the 24 suspects detained as part of the investigation, claimed in his statement to the gendarmerie that uncle Salim Güran had asked him to leave the child's lifeless body in the stream in exchange for 200 thousand liras, and he was referred to the courthouse.
In his statement to the magistrate court, Bahtiyar claimed that uncle Salim Güran had threatened him, saying, "I killed Arif's daughter, you will take this body and destroy it. Otherwise, I will kill you and your family." Bahtiyar was arrested and sent to prison on September 10 on charges of "complicity in intentional murder of a child."
A suspect who was reported to be an imam in the neighborhood was released on September 11 after his procedures at the gendarmerie.
22 suspects were brought to the courthouse yesterday following their procedures at the gendarmerie, and after their interrogations by the prosecutor's office, 9 of them, including her mother Yüksel, brother Enes, uncle Fuat Güran, 2 cousins, and an aunt, were referred to the court with a request for arrest.
While 3 of the suspects were referred to the court with a request for judicial control, 10 people, including her father Arif Güran, were released.
