Breaking News: Ataşehir Mayor Onursal Adıgüzel arrested

A detention order has been issued for 19 people, including Onursal Adıgüzel, who were taken into custody as part of operations conducted against CHP-run municipalities.

The investigation was carried out based on allegations of "rigging tenders, forming an organization for the purpose of committing crimes, and bribery." The 19 individuals, who were referred to the courthouse with a request for arrest during the night, were arrested following their questioning by the judge.

One person involved in the operation was released under judicial control conditions.

It was learned that the judicial processes, covering the detention, prosecution, and court stages, lasted approximately 20 hours.

FIRST STATEMENT FROM CHP

Announcing the development on his social media account, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik reacted by claiming that there were irregularities in the judicial processes.

Çelik stated, "Our Mayor Onursal Adıgüzel and municipal employees were arrested based on the slanders of someone harboring hostility, a cornered businessperson, and a social media troll."

“THEY WERE SUBJECTED TO PSYCHOLOGICAL TORTURE”

In his statement, Çelik used the following expressions:

"It is 06:30 in the morning. Our colleagues were subjected to psychological torture for four days at the Vatan Police Headquarters and for 24 hours at the Kartal Courthouse. Because the prosecution's referral document and permission for lawyers to meet were not granted, the statements dragged on until this hour. Our Mayor Onursal Adıgüzel and municipal employees were arrested based on the slanders of someone harboring hostility, a cornered businessperson, and a social media troll. Onursal Adıgüzel is the mayor of Ataşehir, elected with a record number of votes. Today's arrest decision is part of the ongoing coup attempt against the popular will, which we are resisting. All of Turkey must see that an open war has been declared against the will of the people. A politicized judicial clique, working only against CHP municipalities and opponents, is murdering the law so that a handful of minorities can maintain their power. Let everyone know that our march to power will continue! Our resistance against oppression will continue! Our struggle for justice will continue! They tried many times, but for 103 years, no one has been able to take over our party, our country, or our people. And they will not be able to do so from now on either!"
