Breaking News: Beykoz Mayor detained in dawn operation! First statement from CHP

The Beykoz Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has issued detention orders for 4 suspects, including Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler, on charges of "rigging a tender."

Meanwhile, instructions for arrest, detention, search, and seizure were issued for 17 other suspects on charges of "rigging a tender" and "establishing, being a member of, and aiding an organization for the purpose of committing a crime."

In accordance with the instructions, Köseler was detained by teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Financial Crimes Investigation Branch.

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik, in his statement regarding Köseler's detention, said, "This treatment of a 65-year-old mayor, whose residence is known and who would have testified if summoned, is the latest link in a chain of oppression. We stand with our mayor. We are following the process with our lawyers and our organization."

The statement made by Özgür Çelik on his X account is as follows:

"Our Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler was detained at 04:00 in the morning after his home was raided by a large number of police officers.

This treatment of a 65-year-old mayor, whose residence is known and who would have testified if summoned, is the latest link in a chain of oppression.

We stand with our mayor. We are following the process with our lawyers and our organization.

This "timed" operation, carried out in the middle of the night on the day our Mayor Ekrem is set to make a historic speech in Ankara, is nothing more than the desperation of those trying to design politics with the stick of the judiciary.

Those who think they can stop the Republican People's Party with these futile efforts are in great delusion. No matter what you do, the CHP's presidential candidate will be Turkey's next President!"
