Breaking News: Chief physician provides update on Ferdi Zeyrek's health status

Manisa Metropolitan Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek, who suffered an electric shock, continues to receive treatment in intensive care.

Prof. Dr. İsmet Topçu, the chief physician at Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital, where Zeyrek is being treated, made a statement regarding his health status.

"THERE IS NO IMPROVEMENT OR DETERIORATION"

Topçu stated, "When comparing yesterday to today, there is no improvement, but there is also no deterioration. His intensive care treatment and dialysis support are continuing."

Emphasizing that they are focused on maintaining Zeyrek's vital functions, Topçu added, "There is serious damage to his heart and lungs. We are not considering waking him up at this stage."

Prof. Dr. Topçu's statements are as follows:

"As of today, our treatment continues at a high level in intensive care, just as it did yesterday; however, when comparing yesterday to today, there is no improvement, but there is also no deterioration. His current treatment and struggle for survival continue. All needs in terms of technical equipment are being met; we have no issues. The processes of ensuring oxygenation for both his heart and lungs, as well as maintaining kidney dialysis functions, are continuing in intensive care. The process is ongoing with all relevant briefings and evaluations conducted alongside experts in other necessary fields. There is no development different from yesterday.

Throughout this process, we are in constant consultation with our rector, the Governor, the Minister, and deputy ministers. Their support is very valuable in terms of the motivation of our team. We are continuing the intensive care treatment process in consultation with them.

There is no such thing as 'this will happen in 48 hours' or 'that will happen in 72 hours.' In the follow-up of intensive care processes for patients with very serious damage, we are currently focused only on keeping him alive and preventing any complications that might arise. During this process, we expect the damaged organs to regenerate and heal themselves. To facilitate this healing, we are providing support in terms of oxygenation, improving heart function, or stabilizing brain functions if necessary. There is no specific timeline for this process. The intensive care treatment process continues.

"WE PERFORMED ARTIFICIAL DIALYSIS FROM THE HOUR HE ARRIVED"

He was placed on dialysis from the hour he arrived. Ultimately, there was a period where there was nothing to ensure the nourishment of the organs because his heart had stopped for a long time. This, in turn, prevented the kidneys from functioning, just like all other organs. Therefore, we performed artificial dialysis from the moment he arrived. We continue to ensure the removal of blood or harmful substances from his body and the production of urine.

While not an official scientific committee, a group of experts from various branches who are very experienced in this field and well-known to the public has been formed. We are discussing the situation within this group and trying to do what is best. We are continuing this treatment process with the collective wisdom formed thereafter. At this stage, we are not considering waking him up; the team's joint decision is that it is too early. For now, we are focused on maintaining his vital functions."

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED

One deputy chief public prosecutor and two public prosecutors have been assigned to the investigation into the incident where Zeyrek was severely injured after suffering an electric shock at his home.

More than 20 witnesses have provided statements in the investigation so far.
