Breaking News: CHP leader Özgür Özel announces his party's vote share! 'After the election...'

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel spoke at his party's Mayors' Meeting.

Stating that his party has increased its vote share since the March 31 Local Elections, Özel drew attention to social municipalism and said, "The satisfaction rate with our mayors measured so far and the increase in the average is 8.5 percent compared to election day. I congratulate all of us. Our average on election day was 38 percent, and now our average has reached 46 percent. The total number of those who say 'I would vote for this mayor if the election were held today' has reached 46 percent."

Özel included the following statements:

''We won the 2019 election despite the smear campaigns. We said they would learn to lose and accept it, but unfortunately, that did not happen. The government has become obsessed with obstructing CHP municipalities.''

CHP Group Chairman Özgür Özel criticized the government's obstructions against opposition municipalities. In his criticisms directed at President Erdoğan, Özel stated, "He has never been able to learn to lose, or to accept it when he loses. But if he cannot learn from small tests, a big test is approaching. The nation will show him how to lose in the first election."

'IF YOU WANT TO HOLD SOMEONE ACCOUNTABLE, START WITH YOUR OWN CIRCLE'

Addressing President Erdoğan, Özel said, “If you are going to hold someone accountable, you can start with those who sold Ankara off parcel by parcel, as Bülent Arınç said, or those who betrayed Istanbul, in your own words. If you do not ask, we will.”

'WE STAND BEHIND AHMET ÖZER'

Supporting Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, who was removed from office and replaced by a trustee, Özel said, "Our Mayor Ahmet is innocent. As the CHP family, we stand behind him and we are proud of him." He also sent greetings to Tunceli's Ovacık Mayor Mustafa Sarıgül, who was also replaced by a trustee.

'CONTACT WILL BE ESTABLISHED WITH MHP'

Evaluating the cooperation in Parliament against the appointment of trustees, Özel stated that he attaches importance to the MHP's approach to this issue:

“We are carefully following the MHP's statements that the trustee issue can be eliminated with a law. We will establish contact with them this week. If this stance is sincere, we can save our democracy from a great shame.”

'CHP IS MARCHING TO POWER'

Calling for resistance against the pressures on opposition municipalities, Özel noted the following:

“They are trying to interfere with the nation's choice through trustees or budget cuts. But the CHP and the Turkey Alliance will protect the will of the people. The key in your pocket is not the key to our municipalities, but the key to the CHP's power. The party of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is marching to power. March on, friends, the nation is behind you!”
