Breaking News: Consecutive explosions in Syria's capital, Damascus

Syrian media announced that Israel carried out airstrikes on the capital, Damascus, during the night hours.

In a report released by the regime's news agency SANA at 2:51 local time, it was stated, "Our air defense systems are confronting enemy targets for the third time tonight."

In another report by SANA, citing a military source, it was claimed that Israel carried out the attacks on the capital at 2:05 local time using warplanes and drones.

The report stated, "Our air defense systems confronted the missiles and drones and shot down most of them. The attack resulted in 3 civilian deaths, 9 injuries, and material damage."

Meanwhile, regime media announced that Safa Ahmed, a presenter working for Syrian State Television, lost her life in the attack.

A report on Sham FM noted that a fire broke out as a result of the attack in Mezze.

No statement has been made by Israel regarding the attack.

The Mezze district, which is reported to have been targeted by Israel, houses the Iranian Embassy in Damascus. Israel had carried out an airstrike on the Iranian consulate building in Damascus on April 1. Seven Iranian officials, including two generals from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, were killed in that attack.

Social media accounts known for their proximity to the regime had claimed that Israeli aircraft also targeted certain military points in the village of Assad, the Qudsaya suburb, and the Dimas neighborhood south of Damascus yesterday.

It is known that elements of the Lebanese Hezbollah, as well as the Syrian army and Iranian-backed terrorist groups, are present in Damascus and its surrounding rural areas.

Since the civil war began in 2011, Israel has periodically carried out attacks in Syria against Iranian-backed groups and military points belonging to the Syrian army.
