Breaking News: Ekrem İmamoğlu responds to Mansur Yavaş on primary elections
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has responded to the statements made by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş regarding primary elections and candidacy.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu made statements to journalists following a groundbreaking ceremony in Bağcılar.
İmamoğlu expressed his full support for the primary election that the CHP will hold to determine its presidential candidate.
"The trend our party has set is historic. This is a democratic revolution," said İmamoğlu, adding, "For the first time in the history of the Republic of Turkey, the public is making an effort to express its inclination to choose its own party's candidate by going to the ballot box. I wholeheartedly support this democratic revolution."
İmamoğlu also spoke about the statements made by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş regarding the primary election.
"WE WILL FIND THE BEST PATH"
İmamoğlu stated the following:
"Our esteemed mayor Mansur Yavaş may have a different view, but we will still discuss these matters. These are intra-party issues. We will find the best path. We must define a process where all our hands are raised together."
The full text of İmamoğlu's statements is as follows:
"Our agenda is the nation's agenda, the nation's great test with the economy, both the situation of retirees and the situation of minimum wage earners... This country has many problems. Even if we only talked about the economy, we could make a list for half an hour. Should we start with education, or talk about the justice system, where we have become the biggest victims of injustice and lawlessness... Should we talk about the inflation that cannot be brought down? All of these are real, none of them are artificial. They might see the nation's agenda as artificial from within their own living spaces. They have no remaining connection to the nation's real agenda. They have no opportunity to hear people's complaints; they cannot go to the markets, they cannot go out on the streets. Is there a single image of them? Does today's government have a video or photo in the markets? An early election is the nation's demand. We will continue to renew our demand. On one hand, declaring a presidential candidacy, and then a week later, after the high determination and strong steps taken by our party, saying the election is in 2028, shows the government's timidity and anxiety regarding the process.
(On the CHP's primary election decision) The trend our party has set is historic; this is a democratic revolution. For the first time in the history of the Republic of Turkey, the public is making an effort to express its inclination to choose its own party's candidate by going to the ballot box. I wholeheartedly support this democratic revolution.
Our esteemed Mayor Mansur Yavaş's perspective and view may be different. Still, we will talk. These are intra-party issues. We will find the best path. We will define the process together, where all our hands are raised together, and we must define it. I am dreaming of an environment where all our hands are raised together, knowing that if we move beyond the issue of 'me, him, this, that' and start a beginning where our nation should see the next 20-25 years with hope, otherwise, our nation's hopelessness will not only lead to economic losses but also to the loss of this country's human resources, the loss of the future, the missing of opportunities, and the realization that being a country that missed the train while the world was changing will plunge us all into great despair.
This is a situation beyond positioning. We will meet, we will unite, we will combine our ideas, and we will march to power very strongly, do not worry."
YAVAŞ HAD SAID "TOO EARLY"
ABB Mayor Yavaş had stated that it was too early to determine the presidential candidate.
