Breaking News: Erdoğan files non-pecuniary damages lawsuit against Özel

Hüseyin Aydın, the lawyer for AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, announced that they have filed a lawsuit for damages against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and have filed a criminal complaint on charges of 'insulting the President'.

Making a statement on his X account, Aydın noted the following:

Regarding the speech made by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel at the rally held in Bayrampaşa on August 13, 2025, and his press statement made at the exit of Marmara Prison on the same day;

"A total of 1 million TL in non-pecuniary damages has been filed at the Ankara Civil Court of First Instance due to his inappropriate expressions and baseless accusations targeting our President.

In addition, a criminal complaint has been filed with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the crime of insulting the President.

Respectfully submitted for public information."

WHAT DID ÖZEL SAY?

CHP leader Özel reacted harshly to the defection of Aydın Metropolitan Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu to the AKP and said the following regarding Erdoğan:

“You were kicked out of Aydın on March 31! If taking Aydın means saying, ‘Either get locked up or join my party through Aziz İhsan Aktaş,’ then what can I say to you? Is this how you will take Aydın? I will take Aydın again! Is this bravery? Are you left with a single province in the Aegean! I have taken Kilis, I have taken Kastamonu… Shame on you!”
