Breaking News: First statement from Mansur Yavaş after meeting with Ekrem İmamoğlu and Ümit Özdağ in Silivri!
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, who visited Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is being held at Silivri Prison, made important statements to journalists upon his departure.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş went to Silivri Prison to visit Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Zafer Party leader Ümit Özdağ, and other mayors currently in detention.
Yavaş's visit to Silivri lasted 3 hours.
Speaking after the visit, Yavaş emphasized that the situation has reached the level of lawlessness.
CONCERT INVESTIGATION INTO ABB
Regarding the concert investigation launched into the ABB, Yavaş said, "They will present their statements regarding the investigations. They will appear before the judiciary. If there is any injustice, they will be punished. I am not defending anyone. We will certainly not stand on the side of injustice. Our colleagues are working to provide the necessary defense."
Highlights from Yavaş's speech:
"He is in very good spirits. He believes that these days will pass. We found him in high spirits; he believes he is innocent. According to the information we have obtained from the press, we believe he will be cleared of this investigation. He sends his regards to everyone."
"HE SENDS HIS REGARDS TO EVERYONE"
"Later, we visited Ümit Özdağ, we visited our mayors, and we visited those who were already in detention again. Unfortunately, in a country where trust in the law is increasingly weakening, it has become a situation as if the municipal council is meeting here. All the mayors are here... I hope these bad days will pass."
"THERE IS AN ATTACK ON CHP MUNICIPALITIES"
"We always say this; as CHP mayors, the satisfaction rate in the country in the survey we conducted recently came out at 58 percent," said İmamoğlu, adding, "This satisfaction had a positive effect on the public who had not seen another government or another municipality before. This shows that when the government changes, the satisfaction of the citizens will increase... We are currently managing about 70 percent of the citizens locally. This will lead to a change in government following the increasing satisfaction. For this reason, there is a very intense attack on CHP municipalities. None of us are trying to avoid being tried. Of course, let us be tried, and if there is a crime, let the punishment be served, but the practice must be applied equally to everyone."
"THE LAW HAS BECOME POLITICIZED"
"For example, the presumption of innocence is being violated, the right to be free from stigma is being violated. While investigations should be confidential, information about the investigation, which should be secret, is being spread to all of Turkey via thousands of messages as soon as one leaves the room. Some commentators are also explaining what will happen in the trial in the coming days. This shows that the law has become politicized. Let them be tried without arrest, let the evidence be made public. Let everyone account for themselves comfortably."
"THINGS CANNOT BE RUN WITH SECRET WITNESSES"
Finally, Mansur Yavaş emphasized, "Our wish for all of us is that all these friends are tried without arrest and that they can defend themselves comfortably. Things cannot be run with secret witnesses and the like."
