Breaking News: Fourth meeting of the reconciliation commission begins! Relatives of martyrs and veterans to be heard
The reconciliation commission established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) as part of the new reconciliation process convened for the fourth time. TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, who delivered the opening address, said: "I hope we will fulfil this historic mission in the most successful way possible."
The National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission has begun its work in the TBMM as part of the new reconciliation process that the government has named "Turkey Without Terror."
The commission convened for the fourth time under the chairmanship of TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş. At today's meeting, relatives of martyrs and veterans will be heard.
On Wednesday, the commission will hear representatives of the Saturday Mothers and the Peace Mothers, the Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief (İHH), the Human Rights Association (İHD), the Association for Solidarity with the Oppressed and Human Rights (MAZLUM-DER), and the Tahir Elçi Human Rights Foundation.
Kurtulmuş delivered the opening address at the fourth meeting.

Key points from Kurtulmuş's statement:
"This process is holding its fourth meeting to date. At no point in this process, from the very beginning, has there been any bargaining or give-and-take of any kind, and there will not be. I am saying this once again in the presence of the families of our martyrs and our veterans — in their persons, in the presence of all of Turkey, all 86 million people.
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey, without being party to any bargaining and without being the subject of any bargaining, will fulfil its responsibility to bring this process to an end as soon as possible and to restore our eternal and everlasting brotherhood in this country.
I know that we are in the midst of a difficult process. One of our most important duties is to increase social consent, to develop social sensitivity, and in particular to ensure that the support of different segments of our society for this process of brotherhood is strengthened.
To that end, this broad-based commission has been formed with the participation of all political parties in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey except one, and it has continued on its path by adopting all its decisions unanimously thus far.
We are in the midst of a difficult process. We must be in a period of diligent work. We will discuss all of our issues here. In the first session we discussed what we would do and how we would do it. Now we have determined who we will hear.
During this period, we will of course not spend all our time simply listening here, but we are beginning first with the relatives of our martyrs and our veterans. We will endeavour to hear, as much as possible, all institutional structures in particular that can contribute to this process. In the end, we will show the Turkish public together how this process can be brought to a healthy conclusion.
I hope we will fulfil this historic mission in the most successful way possible."
