Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ was detained in Ankara on allegations of insulting AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during a speech he gave at his party's provincial chairmen meeting in Antalya.

Brought to Istanbul, Özdağ was referred to Çağlayan Courthouse following his processing at the police station.

İYI Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu arrived at Çağlayan with his staff to support Özdağ.

Making a statement there, Dervişoğlu reacted to the fact that the investigation into Özdağ was opened by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

"THE PROSECUTOR OF THIS CASE IS ALSO ERDOĞAN"

"The speech was made in Antalya, but the investigation is being conducted in Istanbul" said Dervişoğlu, "Mr. Özdağ's residence is in Ankara, but his trial is being held in Istanbul; this reminds us of the martial law periods." he said.

Dervişoğlu stated the following:

"Has a special martial law been established in Istanbul that these investigations are continuing here? If you look at it, just like many cases left behind, the prosecutor of this case is also Mr. Erdoğan. In the past, they eroded institutions with conspiracy cases. Now, they are suppressing politics and politicians with similar methods.

They were not just partners of FETÖ, but also their students... Because the methods are the same...

Investigations, trustees, threats, and the transfer of members of parliament are all part of the order they want to maintain.

From this hour on, all squares will be squares of freedom, and all streets will be streets of justice. The squares will not remain silent, and the streets will not wear out from walking.

The President sometimes confuses his duties, and from time to time, he occupies the nation with the consequences of the duties he confuses as the AK Party Chairman and as the President.

He attacks with the sword of the AK Party Chairman, and defends himself before the judiciary with the shield of the President. All negative actions and proceedings are implemented through the judiciary."
