The Istanbul program of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was brought to the CHP Chairmanship with a decision of absolute nullity, was canceled approximately two and a half hours before the planned arrival time.

Kılıçdaroğlu was scheduled to attend the Universal Ashura Mourning Ceremony to be held at 10:00 AM in Halkalı, Istanbul.

While the reason for the cancellation of the program was being questioned, a statement came from Kılıçdaroğlu regarding the issue.

The statement made by Kılıçdaroğlu on his X account is as follows:

"At no point in my life have I considered it right to make any faith a tool for politics and propaganda. I will not allow the month of Muharram and the day of Ashura, which are among the most exceptional times of the Islamic faith, to be the subject of political polemics, tensions, fights, propaganda calculations, and exploitation; at the very least, we will not be a part of this shame and this burden."

In our view, social and spiritual values are far more precious than political ambition calculations and daily political gains. The care that must be shown toward these values is above all kinds of political calculations and expectations.

With this understanding, although it was on our schedule, we have concluded that it would be more correct, more meaningful, and more appropriate not to physically attend the Ashura event due to the atmosphere that has formed. Because at times, the most correct stance is not to be seen among the crowds, but not to be a partner in making faith a tool for politics.

I share my message regarding the Ashura event with you as a sign of our unity of heart and affection; I greet all our souls, whom I believe will understand us in the most correct way, with my most heartfelt feelings, and I wish that the climate of unity, brotherhood, and truth of the month of Muharram and Ashura brings goodness to us all."
