CHP's imprisoned presidential candidate and İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu responded to the remarks made by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan: "Let's see how many more CHP members will perish along the way in his presidential ambition."

"You've finally let the cat out of the bag! Forgetting that you are the President of the country, you have openly threatened to 'let' a presidential candidate 'perish.' You are not threatening me, but tens of millions of voters, the nation itself. My dear nation! The President's words, 'you have perished,' 'you will perish,' are among the most terrifying confessions in Turkish political history. Erdoğan has confessed that he has tried every way to eliminate his rivals and that he will continue to try even more.

Ask this mindset, which has seen that it cannot stop us by canceling elections, ignoring the national will, imprisoning its rival through the judiciary it has brought under its command, canceling a 35-year-old diploma, or imprisoning family members, this question: What other methods do you have that we don't know about? What else will you do? What else is left that you haven't pulled out of your 'bag' yet?

My dear nation; what has perished is the Turkish economy, jobs, livelihoods, and bread. What has perished is democracy and the rule of law. What has perished is the lives of millions of retirees, workers, civil servants, farmers, and young people. What has perished are the AKP cadres who set out as 'servants of the nation' only to be cast aside. What has perished are the hopes of AKP voters who have carried Erdoğan on their backs for years despite every calamity. What is left that this malicious mindset has not burned down, destroyed, driven to despair, or made to suffer? With God's permission and the support of the nation, we will neither perish nor let anyone else perish. We will save the country from this malicious mindset and set it on the right path."
