Breaking News: Joint statement from Ekrem İmamoğlu and Mansur Yavaş!
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu made a joint statement. Both mayors delivered the message, "We are companions on this path."
CHP presidential candidate hopeful and IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu continues his election campaign efforts.
Before his meeting in Ankara today, İmamoğlu visited Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş. Following the meeting, both mayors made statements to the press.
Yavaş stated the following:
"There is a known preference poll. We had a slight difference of opinion on this matter. These were reflected in the press. Therefore, I thought it would be appropriate for me personally not to participate. But since it is portrayed as if there is a problem between us every time we open our mouths on any subject, we wanted to give such an image. We are companions on this path. I thank him for his visit and wish him success in the preference poll."
Speaking afterwards, İmamoğlu stated the following:
"I also thank our mayor. We said hello to Mayor Mansur, we met, and we chatted a bit. He also conveyed his well wishes to us. Ultimately, we are together. Ultimately, we are companions on this path, and we have a single goal. It is to save our country from this oppressive system. We have no other goal."
RESPONSE TO "NO VENUE PROVIDED" ALLEGATIONS
In response to a journalist's question, "Allegations have surfaced that a venue was not provided in Ankara for Mr. İmamoğlu's meeting today. How do you evaluate these allegations?" Yavaş replied: "We no longer want to respond to troll allegations, but they called from the television yesterday and said you didn't answer either; well, if we respond to every allegation, there will be no end to it. But we sent him a letter to convince him. Such a thing cannot be; they are making every effort to spoil our relationship, but it is impossible. We all have a single goal. In this period of deep poverty, this government must change; this is our common goal."
"NO ONE IS ANYONE'S BACKUP"
Continuing to speak on the 'roadmap,' Yavaş stated the following:
"No one is anyone's backup. After March 31, the topic became who the candidate will be. They want to make us forget the real agenda. We want to stay out of these as much as possible. However, the situation has truly become unbearable. Specifically, it is being said that if something happens to Mayor Ekrem, this will happen, that will happen. These are things I find difficult to say; I find such evaluations bad. No one is anyone's backup. We are civilized people; a path will definitely be found."
"IT IS TIME TO CLEANSE TURKEY'S DIRTY POLITICS"
Regarding a journalist's questions about the potential cancellation of his diploma, İmamoğlu replied to the journalist, "Which university did you graduate from? They could even cancel your diploma."
Yavaş said, "Setting up such a conspiracy against a politician, finding tools to block his path in some way, is extremely ugly. Actually, the President should intervene. Because he has the most experience in these matters. Every time an election approaches, they want to make progress through smear campaigns and slander. We have cleansed Ankara's dirty politics. Now it is time to cleanse Turkey's dirty politics, and hopefully, that will happen too."
