Breaking News... Mansur Yavaş on primary elections and İmamoğlu: 'I think the government is getting what it wants...'

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş made statements regarding the current agenda while leaving an event he attended.

"WE WILL STAND AGAINST IT"

Regarding the investigations launched against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Yavaş stated, "We are used to it now. We wake up to a new investigation every morning. No one should underestimate the sense of solidarity among CHP mayors and members of parliament. We will stand together against unfair and unlawful practices."

When asked by a journalist, "Is there an investigation against you, are you hearing any rumors?" Yavaş gave the following response:

"There was such an attempt before, and our Chairman Özgür Özel announced and expressed it. There have been some efforts, we are aware of them, but so far there is nothing yet, though that does not mean there won't be. Politics in Turkey is below the belt; they want to intimidate all their rivals and eliminate them with games like this."

REACTION TO TRUSTEES

Regarding the trustee appointed to the DEM Party-run Kağızman Municipality, Yavaş said, "Trustee practices should be abandoned; at the very least, appointments should be made from the municipal council. A legal regulation must be made as soon as possible. Our citizens there will unfortunately drift away from politics and trust in the state, thinking that the votes they cast at the ballot box are no longer valid."

Regarding the question about the primary election in which the CHP will determine its presidential candidate on March 23, Yavaş noted the following:

"What I am objecting to here is not the primary election itself; I said it was too early because the date has not been set yet, so the party's energy should not be focused on this. In the poll published today, there are still 38 percent undecided. What does this show? I think that many voters who voted for the government are moving away from it, but they are this undecided because they do not see enough energy in the opposition either. As mayors, we need to focus on the people's problems until the election date is set as soon as possible.

I think we need to return to the real agenda of the people as much as possible. Since this topic was brought to the agenda, it has been discussed on all television channels, and I think the government is getting what it wants."
