Breaking News... Marmara and Aegean shaken once again!
A 6.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir was felt across a wide area in the Marmara and Aegean regions. While numerous aftershocks were experienced throughout the night in the region, AFAD reported that a new earthquake with a magnitude of 4.6 has occurred.
According to data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), a 6.1 magnitude earthquake centered in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir occurred at 22:48.
It was reported that the tremor occurred at a depth of 5.99 kilometers. The earthquake was felt in many provinces in the Marmara and Aegean regions, primarily in İzmir, Bursa, Istanbul, Tekirdağ, Kocaeli, and Sakarya.
Citizens took to the streets in panic following the tremor.
AFTERSHOCKS CONTINUED
Following the main earthquake, the first aftershock was recorded at 22:50 with a magnitude of 4.2. According to AFAD data, 26 aftershocks occurred by 23:34. Three of these aftershocks were above magnitude 4.
Tremors continued in the region throughout the night:
At 02:30, a 4.4 magnitude,
At 05:36, a 4.0 magnitude, two new aftershocks were recorded.
AFAD: NEW 4.6 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE
In a new statement made in the morning hours, AFAD announced that another earthquake with a magnitude of 4.6 had occurred in Sındırgı, Balıkesir.
It was stated that the earthquake was recorded at a depth of 6.22 kilometers.
