Breaking News: Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi trial adjourned: First statement from Rezan Epözdemir!

The defendants have appeared in court in the case regarding the death of 15-year-old Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi, the son of Italian chef Andrea Minguzzi and cellist Yasemin Akıncılar, who was fatally stabbed at a flea market he visited to shop in Kadıköy.

The defendants face up to 24 years in prison each on charges of "intentional killing of a child."

The hearing was held at the Anatolian 2nd Juvenile High Criminal Court in Kartal. The court has adjourned the trial of the defendants until May 8.

Following the hearing, the Minguzzi family's lawyer, Rezan Epözdemir, made a statement.

Epözdemir stated the following:

As you all know, Ahmet Minguzzi went to the Tuesday market with two friends on the morning of January 24. He encountered such a tragic incident that is contrary to the nature of being human. Almost everyone showed a very serious will. The family had a request for an execution regulation.

Ahmet falls to the ground defenseless, and the other perpetrator hits him in the head. We lost Ahmet 12 days later. The family wants the material truth to be revealed.

Instead of focusing on the trial, the families are forced to struggle against threats. Threats of a nature that endanger their safety were made by masked individuals claiming to be relatives of these perpetrators.

You are sending a message through the grave. I am calling out to the perpetrator of these actions; we will continue our struggle to the end so that Minguzzi's blood does not remain on the ground and so that they receive the maximum possible sentence. You cannot scare us by destroying the grave. We have received the message, but we will use our freedom to seek justice as a requirement of the rule of law until the end. Minguzzi's killers will receive the punishment they deserve.

Similarly, the family has a request for a regulation so that other Ahmets are not murdered. We are preparing the legal aspect; the President had stated that he would contribute to this issue when he received the family. In this context, we hope that a precedent-setting regulation will be made.
