Breaking News... Ministry of Interior announces: CHP mayor suspended from duty

CHP Akçakoca Mayor Fikret Albayrak, who was arrested in Düzce as part of an investigation into charges of "extortion," has been removed from office by the Ministry of Interior.

The Ministry stated that the suspension decision was implemented under Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393.

The following statements were included in the Ministry of Interior's announcement:

“The press release regarding the suspension of Düzce province Akçakoca Mayor Fikret Albayrak by the Ministry of Interior is as follows:

Following the arrest of Düzce province Akçakoca Mayor Fikret ALBAYRAK by the decision of the Düzce 2nd Criminal Court of Peace dated 23.05.2026 and numbered 2026/274, as part of the investigation conducted against him for the crime of “Extortion by coercion,”

He has been suspended from duty by the Ministry of Interior as a temporary measure in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393.”
