Breaking News... Ministry of National Defense: Missile fired from Iran neutralized

The Ministry of National Defense announced that a ballistic munition, which was determined to be heading toward Turkey after being fired from Iran and passing through Iraqi and Syrian airspace, was neutralized by NATO assets stationed in the Eastern Mediterranean. It was reported that the fragment that fell in the Dörtyol district of Hatay belonged to the air defense system.

Stating that every step will be taken with determination to defend its territory and airspace, the statement expressed that the right to respond to hostile attitudes toward Turkey is reserved.

The Ministry also called on all parties to refrain from steps that could lead to the further spread of conflicts in the region. It was reported that the consultation process with NATO and other allies will continue.

"A ballistic munition, which was detected to be heading toward Turkish airspace after being fired from Iran and passing through Iraqi and Syrian airspace, was timely engaged and neutralized by NATO air and missile defense assets stationed in the Eastern Mediterranean.

It has been determined that the munition fragment that fell in the Dörtyol district of Hatay province belongs to the intercepting air defense munition following the destruction of the aforementioned threat in the air. There is no loss of life or injury in the incident.

Our will and capacity to ensure the security of our country and our citizens are at the highest level. While Turkey stands in favor of regional stability and peace, it is capable of ensuring the security of its territory and citizens, regardless of who it comes from or where it originates.

Every step toward the defense of our territory and our airspace will be taken with determination and without hesitation. We remind you that our right to respond to any hostile attitude toward our country is reserved.

We warn all parties to refrain from steps that would cause the conflicts to spread further in the region. In this context, we will continue to be in consultation with NATO and our other allies.
