Breaking News... Ministry of National Defense: Preliminary agreement reached for Eurofighter procurement

Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler and UK Secretary of State for Defence John Healey have signed a comprehensive memorandum of understanding regarding Turkey's acceptance as a user of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets.

The Ministry of National Defense announced in a statement on its social media account that a preliminary agreement regarding the procurement of Eurofighters has been signed between Turkey and the UK.

The statement from the Ministry of National Defense is as follows:

"STATEMENT REGARDING THE MEETING OF THE DEFENCE MINISTERS OF THE REPUBLIC OF TÜRKİYE AND THE UNITED KINGDOM

The Defence Ministers of the Republic of Türkiye and the United Kingdom welcomed the opportunity to meet today at the 17th International Defence Industry Fair in Istanbul, reaffirmed the strength of the Türkiye-United Kingdom partnership, and emphasized the importance of the long-standing defence cooperation between the two countries, including their collaboration conducted through NATO, as well as their developing ties in the fields of defence industry and security. Both Ministers committed to deepening this strategic partnership to support the Alliance's collective deterrence.

The two countries continue to make significant progress regarding the export of Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft. The acceptance of Türkiye as a Typhoon user will further strengthen the bonds of friendship that have developed over decades among key NATO allies and will be an important step toward increasing Türkiye's advanced combat air capabilities. This development will mark the beginning of a new era in the United Kingdom-Türkiye partnership in terms of strengthening capability cooperation and supporting both countries' defence industries through the mutual procurement of world-leading equipment.

The Defence Ministers signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding today. This document formalizes the relationship between the countries and brings them one step closer to a full-scale agreement on the Typhoon. Both Ministers welcome this signature as a positive step toward Türkiye's participation in the Typhoon community and share a common goal of finalizing the necessary arrangements as soon as possible."
