Breaking News... Ministry of National Defense: Number of martyrs rises to 12

Five of the 19 soldiers who were exposed to methane gas during a search and sweep operation in a cave in northern Iraq had previously been martyred.

The Ministry of National Defense reported that 3 more soldiers affected by the methane gas had been martyred, bringing the number of martyrs to 8.

On July 6, 2025, during a search and sweep operation conducted in a cave used by members of the separatist terrorist organization at the 852-meter-high hill in the Operation Claw-Lock region, three more of our heroic comrades-in-arms were martyred after being affected by methane gas, bringing the number of martyred personnel to eight.

We wish God's mercy upon our dear martyrs who lost their lives in this incident that has plunged us into deep pain and sorrow, and we extend our condolences and patience to their grieving families, the Turkish Armed Forces, and our noble nation, and wish a speedy recovery to those affected.

NUMBER OF MARTYRS RISES TO 12

In its latest statement, the Ministry of National Defense announced that the number of martyrs in the methane gas tragedy has risen to 12.

The statement from the Ministry of National Defense is as follows:

"On July 6, 2025, during a search and sweep operation conducted in a cave used by members of the separatist terrorist organization at the 852-meter-high hill in the Operation Claw-Lock region, four more of our heroic comrades-in-arms were martyred after being affected by methane gas, bringing the number of martyred personnel to twelve.

Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler has traveled to the region along with the TSK command echelon to conduct inspections and attend the farewell ceremonies for our martyrs.

We wish God's mercy upon our dear martyrs who lost their lives in this incident that has plunged us into deep pain and sorrow, and we extend our condolences and patience to their grieving families, the Turkish Armed Forces, and our noble nation, and wish a speedy recovery to those affected.
