Breaking News: New statement from NATO regarding the Iranian missile that fell in Turkey! Will Article 5 be invoked?

NATO Secretary General Mark Ruttemade assessments regarding the missile debris that was reported to have been fired from Iran, headed toward Turkish airspace, and subsequently downed.

Rutte stated that the incident in Turkey was "serious" and noted that NATO is closely monitoring developments.

"INVOCATION OF ARTICLE 5 IS NOT ON THE AGENDA"

Stating that the activation of Article 5, which covers NATO's collective defense principle, is not on the agenda at this stage, Rutte "The incident in Turkey demonstrates how careful and vigilant NATO is" he said.

In his statement, Rutte claimed that Iran is approaching a point where it is becoming a potential threat to Europe as well, particularly due to its missile program and nuclear capabilities.

MESSAGE OF SUPPORT FOR TRUMP

The NATO Secretary General also expressed support for the U.S.'s recent steps toward Iran. Emphasizing that Iran must be prevented from posing a threat in the future, Rutte said, "We must ensure that Iran no longer poses a threat" he stated.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In a statement released yesterday afternoon, the Ministry of National Defense reported that a ballistic munition fired from Iran had crossed Iraqi and Syrian airspace and was heading toward Turkey.

The statement from the Ministry of National Defense said, "A ballistic munition, which was detected to have been fired from Iran and heading toward Turkish airspace after crossing Iraqi and Syrian airspace, was timely engaged and neutralized by NATO air and missile defense assets deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean."

Shrapnel from the ballistic missile fell in the Dörtyol district of Hatay.

In a statement regarding the matter, NATO spokesperson Allison Hart said, "We condemn Iran's targeting of Turkey. Our deterrence and defense posture in all domains, including air and missile defense, remains strong."
