The Ministry of Interior has appointed trustees to the Mardin, Batman, and Halfeti municipalities, which were under DEM Party administration.
Mayors Ahmet Türk, Gülistan Sönük, and Mehmet Karayılan have been removed from office.
Mardin Governor Tuncay Akkoyun was appointed as trustee in place of Ahmet Türk, Batman Governor Ekrem Canalp in place of Gülistan Sönük, and Halfeti District Governor Hakan Başoğlu in place of Mehmet Karayılan.
Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel has decided to travel to Mardin following the appointment of trustees to the Mardin, Batman, and Halfeti municipalities.
Özel will depart from Istanbul today on the 15:15 flight to Mardin, where he will meet with the removed Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Türk.
"A CORRUPT MIND, A WICKED HEART, AND DIRTY HANDS..."
In a statement made on his social media account following the trustee appointments, Özel expressed the following:
"This morning, trustees were appointed to two other elected mayors, along with Ahmet Türk, one of the most important figures in political dialogue and the first person who comes to mind when peace is mentioned in Turkey.
Without learning any lessons from what has been happening for days,
Without paying any heed to what is being said,
Seizing municipalities they could not win in the elections,
Condescending to remove politicians they cannot reform from office through a coup,
We are dealing with a shameless, brazen, and arrogant mentality that has a corrupt mind, a wicked heart, and dirty hands."
