Breaking News: Özlem Çerçioğlu has resigned from the CHP! 'The problems we experienced within the party...'

Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu, who is expected to join the AKP, has resigned from the CHP.

Çerçioğlu announced her resignation through a statement on her X account.

"As the Mayor of Aydın Metropolitan Municipality, I and three of our district mayors have been unable to reach a resolution despite repeatedly seeking solutions through the party's authorized bodies regarding the problems we have experienced within the Republican People's Party (CHP). 

In addition to the anti-democratic practices that have occurred, I no longer have the opportunity to walk the same path as the Republican People's Party due to my fundamental principles, as well as the principles of honesty, service within the framework of the law, and not compromising on public morality, which I have pledged to the people of Aydın and my family. 

I would especially like it to be known that despite expressing our demands for honesty, morality, and compliance with the law at every level to prevent reaching this point, I and my family have been targeted.

Consequently, as there is no longer an opportunity to engage in politics within the Republican People's Party, and due to the necessity I have observed, I am resigning from my party membership.

Let none of my fellow citizens have any doubt that I will continue to serve the people of Aydın with the same principles, with the same enthusiasm and determination as I have until today, without making any distinctions, just as I have served until now.

I greet all my fellow citizens of Aydın with my respects."
