CHP Chairman Özgür Özel shared his views with the public regarding the appointment of Akın Gürlek, who served as the Chief Public Prosecutor of Istanbul, as the new Minister of Justice.

In his statement following the appointment, Özel expressed his reaction by saying, "Tomorrow morning will be a more difficult morning than this one. Let no one have any doubt about this."

In the continuation of his speech, Özgür Özel described the appointment made to the Ministry of Justice in the early hours of the morning as the "greatest attack in political history." Referring to Akın Gürlek's past duties and the judicial processes directed at the CHP without naming him, Özel said:

"The day has come when someone who previously held a political position, and was then assigned as the Chief Public Prosecutor of Istanbul to conduct an operation against the party, has been appointed to the Ministry of Justice in the early hours of today. Between two political assignments, they will attack the institutional identity of the Republican People's Party, cancel the Istanbul Provincial Congress and appoint a trustee there, conduct judicial processes through slander campaigns against all elected officials of the party, and then turn around and sit in a political position again. And then they will look the world in the eye and say, 'Turkey is a state of law.'"
