Breaking News... Tension at the 11th meeting: DEM Party members walk out of the reconciliation commission!

The National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission, established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) as part of the new reconciliation process dubbed by the government as a "Terror-Free Turkey," met today under the chairmanship of Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş.

Tension erupted during the 11th meeting of the reconciliation commission.

According to T24, DEM Party members walked out of the commission in protest of the language and remarks used by Mehmet Bekir Şimşek, the head of the Islamic Preaching, Education and Science Movement Men's Association (İTTİHAD), which is chaired by Enver Kılıçarslan, who was convicted of membership in Hezbollah.

"THE FIRST REACTION CAME FROM FETİ YILDIZ"

Sözcü TV reporter Emre Sercan İke described the events in the commission as follows:

"The commission in Parliament was proceeding as calmly as possible. Those who took the floor were sharing details regarding the process. However, Mehmet Beşir Şimşek (Deputy Chairman of the Union of Scholars and Madrasahs (İttihadul-Ulema)) began to recount past events, particularly in the context of this process. He described the actions of both the terrorist organization and certain state practices. At that point, the reaction actually came from all political parties.

The first reaction came specifically from MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız. Yıldız reacted by saying, 'We invited you here, we did not invite you to insult the soldiers and the police.' Saruhan Oluç from the DEM Party reacted by saying, 'What you are describing is a disgrace; you are feeding on blood.'

DEM Party members walked out of the commission. Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş tried to calm the situation during this process. The tension rose quite high. Kurtulmuş tried to soften the atmosphere by saying, 'Look, we also invited the families of martyrs and veterans here. Look, they have tried to contribute to the process as much as possible with the language and tone they used. Please try to interpret the process in this way as well.' Because the sentences used by Mehmet Beşir Şimşek contained very harsh expressions, we encountered reactions from almost all of the parties."
