Breaking News... Turkey allegations in Epstein file under scrutiny again

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the file concerning Jeffrey Epstein, who is accused of establishing a child abuse and sex trafficking network, following new documents that have surfaced in the public domain. It has been learned that the investigation is being conducted in light of the new documents released by the US Department of Justice.

A DECISION OF NON-PROSECUTION HAD BEEN ISSUED PREVIOUSLY

The Association of Children and Women First (Önce Çocuklar ve Kadınlar Derneği) had filed a criminal complaint on January 16, 2024, requesting an investigation into allegations that there were Turkey connections in the Epstein file and that children from Turkey were also involved in this criminal network. In its decision dated June 16, 2025, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office ruled that there was no ground for prosecution, stating that there was no evidence in the file that the alleged crimes were committed in Turkey.

NEW DOCUMENTS BROUGHT THE INVESTIGATION BACK TO THE AGENDA

The file returned to the agenda after the US Department of Justice shared new documents and records regarding the Epstein case with the public. According to a report by Alican Uludağ from DW Türkçe, Hediye Gökçe Baykal, the lawyer for the Association of Children and Women First, announced that new evidence had emerged in the file with the documents in question, and that they would appeal the decision of non-prosecution and request the reopening of the investigation.

PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE EXAMINING THREE MILLION DOCUMENTS

It has been reported that the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is conducting research into sections related to Turkey within the approximately three million documents shared by the US Department of Justice. Sources reached by Uludağ stated that these documents are being examined to see if there is any evidence regarding the Turkey connections of the suspects and crimes in the Epstein file.

TURHAN ÇÖMEZ'S POST ALSO ENTERED THE FILE

A post made by IYI Party Group Deputy Chairman Turhan Çömez on his X account on December 22, 2025, was also evaluated within the scope of the investigation. In his post, Çömez alleged that the documents released by the US Department of Justice contained statements that young girls from Turkey were taken to the abuse island. Çömez also stated that the documents noted that the children experienced difficulties because they did not know English.

NEW CRIMINAL COMPLAINT AND PREPARATION FOR APPEAL

Following the new documents, the Association of Children and Women First filed a new criminal complaint with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. In the statement made by the association, it was expressed that the documents, which were made public after their confidentiality was lifted, contained serious allegations that children with links to Turkey might have been included in an international sexual exploitation and human trafficking network.

In the criminal complaint, it was specifically emphasized that the suspects should be identified ex officio by the prosecutor's office in terms of crimes of child sexual abuse, human trafficking, and mediation for prostitution. It was stated that the application aims to conduct a comprehensive investigation in line with all documents and allegations reflected in the public domain, not limited only to the named individuals.

The statement also reminded that the state has an obligation to conduct an effective, comprehensive, and multi-faceted investigation even in cases of serious suspicion under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child regarding crimes of child sexual abuse and human trafficking. It was stated that the new documents make it necessary to re-evaluate the previously issued decision of non-prosecution.
