Breaking... Özgür Özel announces CHP's decision on the commission!

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited his party's presidential candidate and İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is being held in Silivri Prison.

There, Özel attended the wedding ceremony of Deputy Secretary-General Gürkan Akgün and Sinem Keleş, who were arrested in the İBB investigation. Özel served as a witness at the ceremony.

CHP WILL JOIN THE RECONCILIATION COMMISSION

Speaking to members of the press after the visit, Özel announced that they will participate in the commission planned to be established in the TBMM for the new reconciliation process.

Stating that decisions in the commission will be made by a qualified majority, Özel said: "TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş called our Deputy Chair Murat Emir. We will submit the names of our 10 members within the required timeframe."

The following are the highlights of the statements made by CHP leader Özgür Özel following his visit to Silivri:

"May God curse anyone who is indebted to this regime. I say it this plainly. I came out once again sharpened against the coup-makers of March 19 — let that be a burden to them. From this point on, we have no demand or expectation other than a trial without pre-trial detention, hearings broadcast entirely live, and an indictment to be prepared as soon as possible. Whenever these AK Toroslar get around to writing the indictment, that's when they'll get off our backs. I'll deal with them later — they needn't worry."

"THE AK TOROSLAR ARE AT EACH OTHER'S THROATS, FIGHTING AMONG THEMSELVES"

"The junta is in a panic — they have to write an indictment and their hands and feet are all tangled up. They are using TRT and AA to make partisan slanders. They won't be able to prove a single one of the allegations they've made. The AK Toroslar gang is at each other's throats, fighting among themselves. If you're surprised, don't be. They've made a mess of everything. Now the indictment will come, and we will begin putting them on trial.

He spoke two nights on TRT, explained it with a pointer on A Haber, did whatever on CNN — go ahead, write it down on paper with concrete proof. We will put the AK Toroslar gang on trial based on that indictment. Yesterday, while they were fighting each other, profanity was coming out of their mouths, they were at each other's throats. Their morale is broken; the coup-makers of March 19 are looking for a way to escape.

HE ANSWERED QUESTIONS

After his remarks, Özel answered questions from members of the press.

In response to a question about the indictment related to the İBB investigation, Özel said: "We are faced with the problem of being unable to write an indictment. There is something that Mr. Bahçeli has said, that conscientious lawyers have said: 'The moment has passed. Such a lengthy pre-trial detention without an indictment means investigations whose moment has passed.' They themselves are saying, 'What are we going to do?' — whether it's written by next year or not, these indictments simply cannot be written."

Özel noted that there is a deadlock between Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç and İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek over the indictment, and continued: "Yılmaz Bey, we share the same feeling — what these colleagues are doing is not their job; you are the head of the HSK, and in my view you shouldn't be, but you can't escape this."

HE ANNOUNCED THE COMMISSION DECISION

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, saying "I am announcing this for the first time," spoke as follows regarding the commission to be established in the TBMM:

"I am announcing this for the first time. The Speaker of the Assembly is in Geneva. He called our Deputy Group Chair (Murat Emir) by phone and conveyed that the adoption of decision-making by qualified majority in the commission to be established by the Assembly had been agreed upon, that decisions would be made by qualified majority, that the official statement we had been waiting for in this regard had been made by him personally, and that we could communicate this. Murat Emir relayed this to me."

"WE WILL NOT MAKE A CONSTITUTION WITH THOSE WHO DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE CONSTITUTION"

CHP will make the necessary appointments to this commission. We will assign and notify our 10 members within the required timeframe tomorrow. We will serve on this commission. No one should be afraid of a commission that CHP is part of. Everyone can be at ease. This commission is not a constitutional commission. We will not make a constitution with those who do not comply with the constitution.

"WE ARE NOT ENTERING THIS COMMISSION IN A CATHOLIC MARRIAGE"

We are entering this commission to work vigorously, to fight for democratization, to fight for political prisoners, to achieve a new democratic opening, and to fight for all problems — if they are to be resolved — to be resolved through this process. We are not entering this commission as if it were a Catholic marriage.

"WE WILL NOT ALLOW A BERMUDA DEVIL'S TRIANGLE"

In Erdoğan's speeches, 11 times in a row: "Turk-Kurd-Arab" — the Kurds' representative is DEM, the Turks' representative is MHP, the Arabs' representative is Erdoğan. We will not allow Turkey's hopes for the future to fall into such a Bermuda Devil's Triangle. Six million Arabs live in Turkey; we will not allow anyone to speak on their behalf.

RESPONSE TO ERDOĞAN

Anyone who thinks Erdoğan wants us in this commission is naive. Just look at the words he used yesterday while inviting us to the commission: "Atonement for your past sins..."

What atonement. I will bar you from asking questions to CHP.

It is clear that Erdoğan does not want us.

Where we are present, there will be no wrongdoing — and if there is, the Nation will hear of it, and CHP will stand where it must stand."
