Bribery operation at the Police Department

Following reports that bribes were being taken from high-tonnage excavation trucks, trucks with missing documentation, minibuses, and commercial vehicles in Istanbul, a technical and wiretap surveillance operation was launched. All developments regarding the matter, which was tracked by the Public Security Branch Directorate, were shared with both the public prosecutor and Istanbul Police Chief Zafer Aktaş.

46 POLICE OFFICERS DETAINED IN EARLY MORNING HOURS

In the first phase of the operation, a parking lot owner in Maltepe was detained. The parking lot owner was released following processing. This morning, teams from the Public Security Branch Directorate's Robbery Bureau detained 46 police officers—mostly traffic police—against whom detention warrants had been issued. Of these, 7 had been reassigned to other provinces, while 39 were serving on the Anatolian side of Istanbul.

39 POLICE OFFICERS SUSPENDED

It was learned that the interrogation of the police officers taken to the Public Security Branch Directorate is ongoing. Meanwhile, it was also learned that 39 police officers serving in Istanbul have been suspended from duty upon the instructions of Istanbul Provincial Police Chief Zafer Aktaş.
