British tourists also revolt against high costs in Turkey: 'I won't come back again'

The reactions of those who came to Turkey from the United Kingdom for a holiday to the prices they encountered have been reflected in the British press.

Holidaymakers predicted that popular tourist destinations would turn into "ghost towns" due to rising prices.

According to a report in Wales Online, Britons on TikTok are sharing their surprise at how unusually quiet Turkey is this season.

One user expressed their shock at the high inflation they encountered, stating that they paid a high fee of 120 pounds for just a one-hour speedboat trip:

"I went on a boat trip the other day, it was 20 pounds and it was reasonable."

Speaking about food, the tourist said:

"I went to Burger King and it was 5 pounds - that's cheap. I'm sitting here right now - a burger is 12 pounds, a water is 2 pounds - it's starting to be like London prices. My sister and her family said they wouldn't come back again."

'THIS IS A DEAD PLACE'

Another TikTok user shared the "strange atmosphere" they experienced during their stay in Turkey. In their video, Jenny, who emphasized the extraordinary "silence" of Marmaris in stark contrast to her previous visits, commented:

"This is a dead place. We went to the beach yesterday and didn't leave until 8 p.m. and walked in İçmeler. All the restaurants were empty.

It has a strange vibe. We visited Marmaris the other day and it's like 50 percent of the people aren't here. It's a very strange feeling."

Since the videos were posted, many people have shared their thoughts on the matter. People believe that prices in the region have risen since the pandemic and that this is deterring visitors.

'I FELT RIPPED OFF AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY'

One person commented: "I live in Cyprus and the situation is the same here." Another expressed their experience as follows: "I have been visiting Turkey twice a year for 20 years. Last year was probably my last visit. The prices were terrible. I felt ripped off at every opportunity. I didn't book this year - as you said, there was a vibe."

One person added: "I just returned from Antalya. It was like dead. All prices have increased dramatically. They all want Euros, not Lira, and the Instagram ban and the killing of stray dogs. There are a lot of reasons."

British national Hayley Duffy also shared her surprise at the prices she encountered at Dalaman Airport on her TikTok account.

According to a report in the Daily Star, a woman commented on the prices as a "joke".

'THINGS HAVE GOTTEN OUT OF HAND IN TURKEY'

Hayley Duffy, who could not believe her eyes when she saw the price tags at Dalaman Airport, said in her viral video: "The food prices at Dalaman Airport are a joke. Wait... 20 Euros for a McDonald's menu (Quarter Pounder). 20 Euros."

One user shared their own expensive experience and wrote: "A McDonald's meal for five people cost me 120 pounds."

Another long-time visitor to Turkey said: "I've been going to Turkey for 20 years. This was my last year. Things have gotten out of hand there."
