Busy schedule in Parliament after the holiday: Housing discounts, crypto tax, and increased maternity leave on the way

Preparations are underway in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for the post-Ramadan Feast period, with work set to continue on a series of important topics that closely concern the country's agenda. In particular, a legislative proposal providing for a 74 percent discount on housing prices for citizens affected by the February 6 earthquakes will come before the General Assembly. This 19-article proposal also includes provisions that will provide additional funding for the defense industry, increase the fee for paid military service to approximately 417 thousand liras, and end the tax deductibility of advertising expenses for games of chance.

Furthermore, it is aimed to prevent unregistered activities by taxing transactions in the cryptocurrency market for the first time.

REGULATIONS FOR FAMILY AND WORKING LIFE

Discussions are also continuing in the Committee on Family, Labor, and Social Affairs regarding the agenda to extend maternity leave to 24 weeks. The prepared legislative proposal aims to increase paternity leave to 10 days and close the gap between the public and private sectors.

SOCIAL MEDIA BAN FOR CHILDREN

The proposal also plans to prevent the provision of direct services to children under the age of 15 via social networks and to impose a requirement for game distributors to maintain a representative office in Turkey.

SECOND OPENING PROCESS

Developments regarding the second opening process, dubbed "Terror-Free Turkey," are also at the top of Parliament's main agenda items. After the holiday, new stages in the fight against terrorism are expected to be translated into legal regulations. Representatives of political parties are continuing their preparations to establish a legal framework through comprehensive joint work. In this process, it is anticipated that Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş will guide the process by holding meetings with the coordinators of the parties preparing reports.

REGULATION ON CHILDREN IN CONFLICT WITH THE LAW: LEGAL EXPERTS TO BE HEARD

The Parliamentary Research Commission, which continues its work on the delinquency of children under 18, will also hold two meetings to hear from academics and legal experts who are specialists in the field. In this way, potential gaps in legislation and proposed solutions will be addressed.
