Can Atalay's colleagues on watch at Çağlayan: 'You didn't give it, you cannot take it away'

Friends and colleagues of imprisoned Hatay TİP MP Can Atalay gathered in front of the Çağlayan Courthouse to protest after his parliamentary membership was revoked following the reading of a Court of Cassation decision in Parliament, despite the Constitutional Court having issued two separate rulings of rights violations.

The lawyers were prevented by police and private security guards from sitting on the steps in front of the Themis Statue, and they later held a press statement.

"YOU DID NOT GIVE THIS PARLIAMENTARY SEAT, YOU CANNOT TAKE IT AWAY"

Atalay's colleagues and friends spoke as follows:

"This imprisonment, which is being attempted in the person of Can Atalay, is the imprisonment of the laborers in Soma; it is the imprisonment of the millions who participated in Gezi. As our comrade in the struggle, Can Atalay is our fellow MP whom we know to have been by our side everywhere, in Hatay, in Soma, and in Aladağ." "You did not give this parliamentary seat, you cannot take this parliamentary seat away."

Lawyer Alp Selek also stated, "Can Atalay is imprisoned because of Gezi. The Gezi event was the most honorable event carried out by this people. Can is not a criminal, he is not a defendant!"
