Candidate Identification Commission established in AKP: When will candidates be announced?

In the AKP, preparations for the Local Administration General Elections to be held on March 31, 2024, have been accelerated.

In this context, a Candidate Identification Commission, which will determine mayoral candidates, has been established under the chairmanship of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

WHO IS ON THE COMMISSION?

The commission, which is expected to hold its first meeting on Monday, December 11, includes AKP Deputy Chairman Efkan Ala, Head of Election Affairs Ali İhsan Yavuz, Head of Organization Erkan Kandemir, and Head of Local Governments Yusuf Ziya Yılmaz.

The commission, which will evaluate opinion polls, surveys, and past election results together in the candidate determination process, will also take into account the views of the party's Organization Presidency and the deputies of the relevant city.

The commission will continue its work until the process of determining and announcing all of the party's mayoral candidates is completed.

WHEN WILL AKP MAYORAL CANDIDATES BE ANNOUNCED?

It has been learned that the AKP will announce its mayoral candidates between the middle of December and the end of January.

Meanwhile, according to information received from party officials, apart from some district mayors, there are no mayors in metropolitan cities or provinces who are subject to the 3-term rule.

The AKP, which accepted applications for mayoral candidacy between November 9 and 22, held its opinion poll on November 26.
