Captain pilot İlçehin Pehlivan dies on THY flight!

It has been learned that a pilot operating the Turkish Airlines (THY) Seattle-Istanbul flight fell ill during the flight and passed away. The pilot of the THY aircraft operating the Seattle-Istanbul flight, İlçehin Pehlivan, has died. The sad news was announced by THY Press Consultant Yahya Üstün.

In his statement, Üstün said the following:

EMERGENCY LANDING DECISION MADE

"Our Captain Pilot İlçehin PEHLİVAN, who was operating our Airbus 350 type aircraft with tail registration TC-LGR on flight TK204 from Seattle to Istanbul, fainted during the flight. When the initial medical intervention performed on our captain on board was unsuccessful, the cockpit crew, consisting of 1 captain and 1 co-pilot, decided to make an emergency landing, but our Captain passed away before the landing.

İlçehin PEHLİVAN, who had been serving at Turkish Airlines since 2007, was 59 years old. A periodic health examination was conducted on 08.03.2024 at an Aviation Medical Center authorized by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and no health problems that would prevent him from performing his duties were detected.

Our aircraft decided to land in New York, and the return of our passengers to the country is being planned via the New York station.

ÜSTÜN EXPRESSED CONDOLENCES

As the Turkish Airlines family, we wish God's mercy upon our captain, and patience to his grieving family, all his colleagues, and loved ones."
