Cevdet Yılmaz responds to Özel, who criticized Erdoğan's silence on Palestine: 'Those who pursue political polemics...'
CHP leader Özgür Özel criticized President Erdoğan for remaining silent on the Palestine issue, stating, "Erdoğan, who turns his face to Israel and his back to Palestine, is losing his legitimacy." Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, responding to Özel's remarks, argued that Erdoğan's support for the Palestinian cause is clear.
Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel had reacted to AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for remaining silent on US President Donald Trump's remarks regarding Palestine.
A response to Özel's words came from Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz.
Yılmaz stated the following in a post on his X account:
"Our President's resolute stance in favor of the oppressed throughout his life and his strong support for the Palestinian cause are known to our nation and the entire world. The greatest testimony to this has been provided repeatedly by our Palestinian brothers and sisters themselves. Despite this clear truth, we leave those who pursue political polemics far from sincerity regarding the Palestinian cause to the discernment of our noble nation. As the Republic of Turkey, we advocate for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with 1967 borders in every forum, and we will continue to do so."

WHAT DID ÖZEL SAY?
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had stated that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan remained "silent" regarding US President Trump's remarks about leaving Gaza to the US, saying, "When the day comes, when fighting with Israel pays off, Erdoğan, who profits from this manifold, is satisfied with his role, and this role includes the uprooting and displacement of Palestine from Gaza, and he remains silent on this. He has no right to remain silent on this. Every day he remains silent on this issue is illegitimate. Because a very significant majority of those who voted for him did so assuming that Turkey would maintain its traditional stance on Palestine and that he would continue his previous rhetoric. If you now turn your face to Israel and your back to Palestine, you lose your legitimacy. Here is another reason to put the ballot box before the people as soon as possible and ask the nation, 'What do you say now?'"
