Chief Public Prosecutor's Office labels Ekrem İmamoğlu a 'criminal organization leader'! İmamoğlu's speech from 4 days ago is back on the agenda!

As part of an operation targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, detention warrants were issued for 100 people, including İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and his advisor Murat Ongun.

İBB Mayor İmamoğlu was taken into custody in a dawn raid.

Regarding the operation against İmamoğlu, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated, "Detention warrants have been issued for a total of 100 people, primarily the suspect and criminal organization leader Ekrem İmamoğlu, Murat Ongun, Tuncay Yılmaz, Fatih Keleş, Ertan Yıldız, and 95 other suspects connected to these individuals."

The use of the phrase "criminal organization leader" for İmamoğlu in the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's statement drew attention.

İMAMOĞLU HAD SAID "THEY ARE TRYING TO CONSTRUCT AN ORGANIZATION"

Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was detained on charges of being a "criminal organization leader," had said in a statement in Ankara on March 15, "They are trying to construct an organization." İmamoğlu had stated the following:

"These preparations, these lawsuits, these investigations are all baseless, evidence-free, and forced allegations. They are going to bring together all these fabricated claims and are trying to invent a profit-oriented organization gathered around İmamoğlu. They will do this by using tenders that have been audited one by one and are in plain sight as an excuse, and they will try to declare the people around me guilty through the dirty scheme they have set up. Journalists and trolls they use as pawns are writing these things. They are preparing to stir up this country. First, they are concerned with 'let's finish İmamoğlu's business before the March 23 primary election.' They are trying to pull a so-called organization out of their bag, just like they used to do, calling it the 'big turnip.' They are even talking about putting İmamoğlu in prison. These are in the columns. Apparently, İmamoğlu will be out of the game! This is not a banana republic; cowardice does not work on these lands! They cannot defeat me politically, they cannot intimidate me. Their concern is not the homeland, but their own seats!"
