Chilling details in horrific murder: He even attended the funeral of the man he killed
After interior designer Bartu Can was found shot to death at a campsite in Zonguldak, it was revealed that the suspect who confessed to the gendarmerie had also attended the young architect's funeral. The suspect, M.Ö., who was referred to the courthouse on March 6, was released under judicial control, while the other murder suspect, Kenan Alagöz, was arrested.
On September 10 of last year, 32-year-old interior designer Bartu Can, who was camping with friends at Yumurtalık Cliffs in the Karadeniz Ereğli district, was found shot to death near the campsite. Following the incident, teams from the Provincial and District Gendarmerie Command detained 6 people on various dates. However, those detained were later released.
In the deepened investigation, the license plates of 22,543 vehicles that used the road near the campsite, trail cameras installed in the area, security cameras, data from the license plate recognition system, and HTS records were examined.
M.Ö., who stated that he had come near the campsite with Kenan Alagöz to drink alcohol on the day of the incident, went to the gendarmerie and confessed regarding the event where Bartu Can was found dead. Following the confession at the gendarmerie, M.Ö. and Kenan Alagöz were detained by the teams. On March 6, Kenan Alagöz was referred to the Kdz. Ereğli Courthouse and was arrested and sent to prison. M.Ö. was released with judicial control conditions.
"I WAS SCARED AND SAID 'FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, WHO IS THIS?'"
Explaining that they went to drink alcohol with Kenan Alagöz on the day of the incident due to his fondness for alcohol, M.Ö. said,
“When we arrived at the place known as Yumurtalık Cliffs, there were people camping there and their vehicles. I didn't know these people. We went about 100 meters further and started drinking alcohol together in the vehicle. After 02:30 at night, since we ran out of alcohol, I started bending down to collect the trash at my feet."
"At that moment, I heard the sound of the door opening. When I looked up, I saw the left rear door open and a man getting into the vehicle. I was scared because I didn't know this person and said, 'For heaven's sake. Who is this?' At that moment, Kenan Alagöz suddenly got out of the vehicle in astonishment. The person, whose name I later learned was Bartu Can, also got out of the vehicle suddenly” he said.
"I HEARD THE SOUND OF A GUNSHOT"
Stating that he wanted to walk around the vehicle to understand what was happening, M.Ö. said,
“I was going to go to the other side of the vehicle to see what was happening. At that moment, I heard the sound of a gunshot. Then I heard another gunshot. When I went to the other side and reached Kenan Alagöz, I saw the person named Bartu Can lying on the ground."
"When I looked at Kenan Alagöz, he had a pistol in his hand. I reproached Alagöz, saying, 'What have you done, brother?' He didn't answer me at that moment. He froze. After a while, he said, 'Come on, come on, let's go.' When we arrived at the Kandilli location, I asked Alagöz, 'Pray that the man is not dead, I hope. What have you done? Where did you shoot the man?' He didn't answer me at all. Then I dropped Kenan Alagöz off at his house” he said.
"BROTHER, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?"
Stating in his testimony that he went to Kenan Alagöz's house the next day and that Alagöz was scared and trembling, M.Ö. said,
“I asked him, 'Brother, what have you done? Where did you shoot him? Did he die?' He said to me, 'I don't know what happened either.' I delivered his vehicle. We met at a gas station a while later. I asked, 'What are you thinking of doing?' I don't remember his answer."
"I finally called him on the phone. I asked what he was doing. He said he was going to Friday prayer and said, 'I even deleted your number.' After this last conversation, I felt regret because of the incident that happened to us, and I told the gendarmerie everything I knew and the incident I experienced with all my sincerity and in the most accurate way. I am very sorry that I did not tell about this incident until today. The perpetrator of this incident is Kenan Alagöz” he said.
"I ATTENDED THE FUNERAL BECAUSE I KNEW HIS FATHER"
Stating that he attended Bartu Can's funeral because he knew his father, M.Ö. said,
“It is true that I attended Bartu's funeral. I know the person's father because he is a marriage officer at the municipality. That is the reason we attended the funeral ceremony. When I walked around to the left side of the vehicle and saw Bartu on the ground, there was an estimated distance of 2-3 meters between Bartu and Kenan. I definitely did not see the moment Kenan shot at Bartu. However, I clearly saw that Kenan had a gun in his hand. I did not kill Bartu. I did not help in his killing” he stated.
