CHP's Başarır criticizes AKP's trustee decision using Gökçek as an example

In the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly, group deputy chairmen took the floor to make assessments regarding the agenda.

Taking the floor, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır reacted to the appointment of a trustee to replace the Hakkari mayor, noting that the people of Hakkari had elected the candidate permitted by the Supreme Election Council (YSK) just two months ago with 49 percent of the vote.

"TRUSTEES ARE FASCISM"

Stating, "Now you say, 'They might be a terror suspect.' This is completely contrary to the presumption of innocence," Başarır said the following:

"In such an ambiguous situation, you declare their council 'affiliated with and guilty of a terrorist organization,' and you don't even give them the right to choose someone from there. In countries governed by even a shred of democracy, trustees are fascism."

"THE MAYORS HAD TIES TO 'FETÖ'"

Stating that the former metropolitan mayors of Istanbul, Ankara, and Balıkesir were forced to resign because they were affiliated with 'FETÖ', Başarır continued as follows:

"Everyone knows that those mayors had ties to 'FETÖ.' And their own groups could no longer stomach it. They forced them to resign. This is the kind of democracy you have; it's one way when it's another party.

Why weren't trustees appointed to them? Why didn't you appoint a trustee to replace Melih Gökçek? He was loudly promoting FETÖ's olympiads. He was depositing money into Samanyolu TV and Zaman newspaper after July 15. This is not called democracy or anything of the sort. This is called a coup."
