CHP calls for parliamentary inquiry into Meat and Milk Board

Republican People's Party (CHP) Niğde Deputy and member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Affairs, Ömer Fethi Gürer, has opened a motion he prepared for a parliamentary inquiry into the activities of the Meat and Milk Board (ESK) for signatures. 

Stating that "The Meat and Milk Board has important duties and responsibilities such as regulating meat and milk markets, ensuring quality and safety, and protecting producers and consumers," Gürer recalled that the failure to present the 2022 annual report to the public and the negative developments regarding this issue have been brought to the public agenda.

"THE INSTITUTION IS VIOLATING ITS RESPONSIBILITY"

Criticizing the fact that while the 2023 annual report has been published by the Meat and Milk Board, the 2022 annual report was not published in a timely manner, Gürer said, "The documentation of activities by public institutions and the informing of the public are accepted as a fundamental element in the functioning of democratic societies. Therefore, it is clearly evident that the ESK's failure to fulfill this legal obligation in a timely manner constitutes a violation of the institution's responsibility to the public. This situation jeopardizes the transparency of the use of public resources and decision-making processes, and undermines public trust."

Gürer added, "The right to information is a fundamental requirement for citizens to be informed about and participate in public processes. For this reason, it is important for public institutions to respond to requests in an open and clear manner to ensure accountability and increase social trust," he said.
